How to Install APK Files on Android — Step-by-Step Guide

What is an APK File?

APK stands for Android Package Kit. It's the file format used to distribute and install applications on Android devices. When you download an app from outside the Google Play Store, it comes as an APK file.

Step 1: Enable Unknown Sources

Before installing any APK file, you need to allow your device to install apps from unknown sources:

  1. Open Settings on your Android device
  2. Go to Security (or Privacy on some devices)
  3. Find Unknown Sources or Install Unknown Apps
  4. Toggle it ON

On Android 8.0 and above, you may need to grant permission per-app. When prompted, allow your browser or file manager to install APKs.

Step 2: Download the APK File

  • Visit a trusted source like reddybookapk.in
  • Tap the download button
  • Wait for the download to complete
  • You'll find the file in your Downloads folder

Step 3: Install the APK

  1. Open your file manager or tap the download notification
  2. Locate the APK file
  3. Tap on it and press Install
  4. Wait for the installation to complete
  5. Tap Open to launch the app
